Mary Thurston

With great sadness we announce that Mary passed away at the Ruddy-Shenkman Hospice on Wednesday afternoon October 30th, 2019 at the age of 73.

Mary was the devoted wife of Eric, the loving mother of Jeffrey and Jennifer and incredible grandmother of Noelle, Katie, Mack and Eva. The daughter of the late Glenn and Ann Sutherland of St. Thomas Ontario, she leaves behind her siblings Clare (Joe), Jim (Roma) and her very best friend Kay Gauthier.  She was a wonderful aunt, great aunt, sister, sister-in-law and loyal friend.

Mary was a staunch Air Force wife who over the years, moved her family many times to Germany and throughout Canada. She did this in the organized, graceful and upbeat way only Mary could. She had a special way of making every house a home wherever home happened to be.

Mary was diagnosed with cancer three times over the last thirteen years. She battled each diagnosis with bravery and courage and never let it prevent her from doing the things she loved; golfing with friends and family, volunteering at the Nepean Skating Club, aqua-fit classes and bowling a with the Ryan Farm ladies. Mary was a woman of many talents who always had a project on the go. She was an amazing seamstress, knitter, cook and baker; she could do anything and there was nothing you would bring to Mary that she couldn't fix.

We would like to thank Dr. Asmis, Dr. Toupin, Dr. Swami and all the staff at the Ruddy-Shenkman Hospice for the care and compassion they showed Mary and her family throughout her final days.

A funeral service will be held on Friday November 15th at 11am at St. Patrick’s Parish on Steeple Hill Crescent, followed by a celebration of life immediately after at the Monsignor Paul Baxter Center.
