Paveck, Marion

January 23, 1925 – September 26, 2021

It is with great sadness that the family of Marion June Paveck (nee Armstrong) announce her passing at the age of 96 at the Queensway Carleton Hospital.  Marion was deeply cherished by Frank, her husband of 72 years.  She was predeceased by her sisters, Josephine, Kathleen and Betty, and survived by her brother, Richard.

Marion was the loving mother of Elizabeth (Robert Charest) and Frank Jr. (Terri Biggs), and doted on her beloved grandchildren Marc, Andrew and Michelle Charest, and Hannah and Spencer Paveck, and her great-grandchildren Julie, Henry, Charlotte, Isabelle, Eleanor and Sylvie.

Born in Detroit, Marion spent her childhood in Leamington and North Bay, and moved further north to Kirkland Lake as a young adult.  There, she met and married Frank, started their family and together they were the heart and soul of a vibrant KL community while sharing the operation of Woods Street Grocery.  Upon their retirement, they re-joined their children in Ottawa, and enjoyed memorable travels, particularly to Frank’s home country of Slovenia.

Marion was admired for her quilting, knitting and sewing talents, was a keen curler, bowler and x-country skier, and was a valued judge within the Northern Ontario figure-skating circuit.  She will especially be remembered as the precious “best grandmother ever” who created magical vacations at the treasured cottage on Lake Sesekinika (accompanied by mouth-watering blueberry pies).

The family expresses a deep thank you to the staff at Stillwater Creek Retirement Residence for their exemplary care of Marion.

A private family service is planned. A graveside interment will take place in Kirkland Lake in the summer of 2022.  Tributes and condolences or donations to Queensway Carleton Hospital or Heart and Stroke Foundation may be made at www.tubmanfuneralhomes.com
