Marguerite Boyle

August 11, 1924 – June 1, 2020

Marguerite Lois Boyle was the beloved and loving wife of Robert William “Bob” Boyle (Ph.D, Canadian Mining Hall of Fame), mother of Daniel Boyle (Ph.D, deceased 2000) and Heather Robinson (Ph.D). Predeceased by parents Elgin and Sarah Brown (née Bourgua) of Wallaceburg, Ontario, and brothers Douglas and Eldon.

Marguerite met Bob, who lived on a neigbouring farm, while just an infant. They courted throughout WWII by correspondence and married upon his return from overseas in 1946. While Bob worked toward his Ph.D (University of Toronto), Marguerite tended their children. A tireless worker on the home front, she travelled the world with her geochemist husband. She was a member of the Geological Wives Association (Geological Survey of Canada) and a volunteer at the Elizabeth Bruyére Retirement Residence.

As a doting grandmother to Matthew Boyle and his wife Sarah Shirey, she was adored in return. She will be very much missed by them, by her daughter-in-law Christy Vodden, her birthday twin Georges Flosse and his wife Lynda Harvey, her many nieces and nephews, and her friends Carole Thomas, Christiane Thompson, Kathleen Pitruniak and Maya Juvy. A lover of animals, her beloved cat Katy, her grand-dog Teddy Binx, and her great-grand dogs Hank and Gus will all miss her. Marguerite was a beacon of light in the darkness to many, and she rests in peace always in our thoughts and memories.

The family would like to thank staff and friends at the Duke of Devonshire Retirement Residence and the Civic Hospital for their kindness and attention. A memorial garden party will be held next summer and her ashes will be interred at Riverview Cemetery in Wallaceburg beside her husband. For those who wish, a donation to CNIB or the charity of your choice would be appreciated by the family.
