Garden Chapel

It is with great sadness that the family of Marcia Diane Kitching (nee Van Alstine) announces her passing after a brief illness, on Wednesday, June 5, 2019, at the age of 84 in Ottawa, Ontario. Marcia will be lovingly remembered by her children Debbie Comeau (Brian), Chris (Edwinna) and Jamie as well as sisters Nancy, Sharon and brother Walter. Marcia will also be remember by her five grandchildren Kelly, Grace, Jeff, Ashley and Kyle as well as four great grandchildren Caelan, Audrey, Mackenzie and Iain. Marcia was predeceased by her loving husband John, son Donald, parents Harold and Iva Van Alstine and brothers Earl and William.

Marcia was born in New Bremen, NY, USA and was the oldest of six children. Her father was with the United States Army and this meant moving often. She lived in the United States, Germany and eventually found herself in Fort Churchill, MB where she met the love of her life, a young Canadian soldier, John Kitching.

Marcia was proudly patriotic and had been chosen to represent the United States in various parades during her stay in Fort Churchill. Marcia and John eventually settled in Richmond, Ontario to raise their family.

Marcia loved knitting, crocheting and tatting. She was an accomplished baker, loved to cook and made the best spaghetti sauce and apple pies ever. She was a charismatic and kind hearted woman with an electrifying smile that instantly lit up a room whenever she walked in. She was known to be the life of the party and was someone that everyone gravitated to whenever she was present. Marcia was always eager to lend a hand where needed and always put other people's needs first.

Marcia was very involved in her community through the years. She was an active member of St John the Baptist Anglican Church in Richmond, taught knitting and crocheting in the community, volunteered for the local legion and various other charities. Most of all, Marcia loved her family and her friends and was especially fond of spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was a loving wife, mother, sister and aunt.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to Alan and Gloria, Ian and Bev, Dr. Lee Reichman, Rev. Ryan Boivin and everyone with the Champlain LHIN network who provided endless support to Marcia. Her life was greatly enhanced by your love.

Memorial service will be held at St. John the Baptist Anglican Church, 67 Fowler St, Richmond, Ontario at 11 am, June 25, 2019. Light reception at Marcia's home 12:30-2 pm. For those wishing, donations in the memory of Marcia to a charity of your choice.
