Jose Renato De Oliveira

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our husband, father, relative and friend whose life he touched in many ways on October 10, 2020.  He left us, holding my mother’s hand and his daughter Ana Helpin at his bedside in Ontario Canada after a long fight with vascular dementia. He was 89 years old.

He was born in Madeira island in Portugal where he spent the first 36 years of his life. He had the vision and a yearning for change and growth, leading to Jose immigrating to Canada. My father had a lot of passions fishing, avionics, travel but most of all he loved his family and instilled strong values that have and will continue to serve us well. He will be dearly missed and will forever be part of each of us.

He was predeceased by his daughter Elda which broke his heart and left a deep sense of loss that he never recovered from.  Jose is survived by his wife Eunice De Oliveira, daughters Dalila, Telma (Dave) , Ana (Jerry) and his cherished grandchildren (Tanis, Theo, Michael, Marissa, Erika, Gregory, Kyla, Amanda, Jennifer, Kaytlin , Sean) and 6 adorable great-grand-children.

Jose was diagnosed with vascular dementia a few years ago and as his disease progressed, he was lovingly cared for by my sister Ana Helpin and her family. We thank them for their unselfish love and relentless support that we know Jose appreciated, loved and made him feel safe.

On his final days, he was admitted to the Queensway Carleton Hospital Emergency and ACE unit where he received  exceptional care. The family offers their thanks and commends them on their professionalism and support during this difficult time for the family.

Due to COVID limitations, the funeral is private to the immediate family as we must follow strict attendance guidelines.  Funeral services will be held at St Isidore Roman Catholic church, Kanata, Ontario on Tuesday October 20th, 2020 at 1 PM Eastern time.  As an alternative, my father was intrigued by technology and the incredible potentials, therefore it is only fitting that we offer a virtual funeral.
