Edward Rowe, age 95, passed away peacefully at home on January 16th, 2021.  He was born March 5th, 1925 to parents Harvey and Grace (nee Laflamme). He is pre-deceased by his three younger brothers, Raymond, Paul, and Maurice.

Born and raised in Ottawa, he graduated from De LaSalle Academy and went on to receive his Chartered Accountant designation from McGill University. He was recruited to Price-Waterhouse Accounting Firm in Newfoundland where he met his beloved wife-to-be Veronica (nee Carroll).

Edward had a successful professional career spanning over 40 years. He was President of two pharmaceutical companies: Schering and Bristol Myers, followed by many years at the Office of the Auditor General where he attained the position of Deputy Auditor General of Canada. Subsequently Edward contracted at the United Nations providing education in best practice auditing to governmental agencies in several countries around the world.

Edward is survived by Veronica and their four children: Paul, Elaine (Jim), Joanne, and Monique (Alain). He will be deeply missed by his nine grandchildren Chris (Kendra), Sarah (Ryan), Suzanne (Rob), Ilana (Pablo), Mike (Celeste), Andrew, Alyssa, Jenny (Sebastien), and Valerie (Sebastien) as well as his four great-grandchildren, Alycia, Zachary, Jayna, and Calvin.

Family was of paramount importance to Ed. He cared and supported all of his children throughout his life and developed unique relationships with each grandchild.  His unconditional love, warmth, generosity, and sense of humour will be his legacy.

Between his illustrious career and his love of travelling, he visited 78 countries during his life. In his retirement years, he rekindled close friendships with many of his previous colleagues from the Office of the Auditor General. He genuinely treasured their weekly lunch dates; during the COVID-19 pandemic, he continued to attend these get-togethers via ZOOM much to the amusement of his grand-children.

Edward loved watching sports especially hockey and tennis. He planned many trips in his life around the US Open, Wimbledon, and the Stanley Cup playoffs. For 95, he was adept with technology, he loved keeping in touch with friends and family via e-mail.

Edward was a loved and accomplished family man, colleague, boss, mentor, and friend. He’ll be missed and fondly remembered by those touched by his good grace.

Due to pandemic related restrictions, a small private family service will be held at Tubman Funeral Homes on Friday, January 22, 2021.
