Shirley Petrie passed away peacefully on May 7, 2026, in her 90th year. Beloved wife of Leonard Petrie, dear mother of Valerie McTaggart (Robin), Larry Petrie (Barb), Marcia Scott (Chris), and Ross Petrie (Leann). Lovingly remembered by her grandchildren, Katie and Michael, Chelsie (David) and Brianne (Jordon), Rachel (Myles) and Abbey (Tom), of whom she was so proud. Mom would have been so happy to have known her little great- granddaughters, Quinn and Lennie. Mom was predeceased by her parents, James and Jessie McKinnon, her brothers James and Daniel, and her grandson Lyle.

Shirley will be remembered as a devoted wife of 68 years to her loving husband Leonard, a caring mother, and a proud grandmother whose greatest joy was her family. Together, Shirley and Leonard travelled extensively and shared a lifetime of memories built on love, companionship, and adventure. She spent many happy years working as a social worker, where her compassion and care touched the lives of many. Shirley had a love for golf, curling, bridge, and enjoyed attending plays and musical theatre. She never passed up the chance to enjoy board games and cards with family and friends. Since moving to Barrhaven in 1967, she made many friends including the brown bag lunch ladies whom she adored. She especially cherished time spent at the cottage, where many treasured memories were made. Rest in peace, Mom. We were all truly blessed having been loved by you.

Memorial service will be held at 11:00 am on Tuesday, May 26, 2026, at St. Patrick’s Parish, 15 Steeple Hill Crescent, Fallowfield, Nepean. Celebration of Life will follow in the Parish Hall.
