Obituary

It is with deep sadness we announce the passing of Sheila Jean Prince, who died peacefully under the compassionate care of the Royal Ottawa Mental Health Centre care team on Wednesday, January 28, 2026. Words alone cannot express how grateful Sheila’s family is, of the quality care she received while at the Royal.

Born a red head, on October 9, 1935 with a sweet tooth and a tendency to blush, Sheila was the fourth of eight siblings, raised by loving, hardworking parents, on a dairy farm on the South Branch Road in Cornwall, Ontario. She is predeceased by her parents Leaffie Alberta (Clark) and Charles Norman Duncan Ferguson; her sister Mary Jane Ferguson; and her brothers “Jack” Ferguson (Phyllis) and Gordon Ferguson (Elizabeth).

Sheila is survived by her husband Ronald Prince; her sisters, Ruth Balkwill (Hugh), Marilyn Cameron (Ralph), and Linda Putnam (Paul); her brother Kenneth “Kenny” Ferguson (Beverly); her daughters, Allyson Greenberg, and Catherine Prince (David), her grandchildren, Matthew and Jennah Greenberg, and her step grandchildren, Zachary and Ami.

Sheila was proud and deeply grateful for her upbringing. She cherished her family and loved sharing stories of growing up on the farm. She went on to live a rich and fulfilling life - becoming a dedicated nurse, beloved wife, devoted mother and grandmother and dear friend to many. Over the decades, she enjoyed singing in the Bell’s Corners United Church Choir. In her later years, Sheila took up piano and obtained a degree in psychology. Sheila a was light hearted, kind person, who loved to laugh sing and dance. She cherished nature, babies and animals, and most of all, loved helping others and being around people. We are comforted in knowing Sheila is finally at rest in God’s loving embrace.

A Memorial Service will be held on February 17, 2026 at Bell’s Corners United Church 10:00-11:00 Visiting 11:00-12:00 Service 12:00 – reception
