IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Ronalie Kathleen
Bates
February 20, 1947 – December 27, 2025
Sadly, gone now, Ronni will be forever missed and lovingly remembered by her sister, Julie Bates, her son Steven Brombach and Elise (Lapoint), her daughter Kirsten (Brombach) and Kirk Robinson, her 3 grandsons Julien and Charlie Brombach and Cole Robinson, extended family and dear friends. We were all gifted to have known her.
Born in Toronto to Joan (Cummins) of Ottawa and George Derek Bates, raised in Port Credit, she left home at a young age for a larger life.
Ronni lived life on her own terms, with independence, courage, creativity, a quick laugh, sense of fun and a winning smile.
Her adventurous spirit first took her to Banff, where she married (Willi Brombach) and raised 2 young children. They enjoyed the west but somehow Ronni always circled back to family, so eventually they came east and settled in Ottawa.
Always creative and entrepreneurial Ronni became a dental assistant, started a home daycare, R and J Designs, and Top on the Ladder paint and wallpaper co. All successful but never quite the right fit.
Years later, restlessness or wanderlust, warm breezes, sunshine and turquoise waters lured her to Anguilla. With hard work, tenacity and her many talents she created a good life there. Over those 20 years she managed, then owned The Seahorse Hotel, had a production co. for events and magazine photoshoots, decorated several private homes and small hotels in both Anguilla and Barbados.
Eventually the limits of island life, poor health care and missing family and old friends, she moved north. First to Toronto island where her sister lived and they began a successful Bed and Breakfast. Then the draw of being closer to family, her aging mother, grown children and the first (of 3) grandsons, she settled permanently in Ottawa.
Where ever she landed, with her keen sense of design, she created simple, gracious spaces that were comfortable, welcoming and always immaculate! She enjoyed good food, travel, gardening, antiques and shopping for a good deal. She loved dinner and game nights with family, pjs and a good movie, weekends spent with the cousins and time with her friends.
As she lived her life, she faced her later health issues with strength and determination.
Ronni was real and she was human, generous, smart, kind, beautiful woman, and oh she loved fiercely.
She will be missed and loved forever.
To honour Ronni, please pay a kindness forward
