Oswald (Ossie) Valentine Butler, age 82, a beloved husband, father, son, brother, grandfather, friend, community member and figure, sadly passed away on July 9, 2026. Born on July 24, 1943, in Kingston, Jamaica, Ossie had a zest for life and lived a life governed by faith and blessed with love.

Since emigrating to Canada, Ossie worked within the Ottawa school board as a Chief Custodian for over 30 years and was a representative of his community as a long-standing member of the Jamaican Ottawa Community Association.

Ossie was a lover of music and had amassed a treasured collection of records over the years and took pride in building his own sound systems. From enjoying playing records on his turntables at home, to deejaying at parties and community events, or just listening to the radio; music was always present in his life.

Ossie was skilled and dexterous in masonry and carpentry, and his hobbies and passions included being an avid pool player and bowler. He was a member of a league for both and always looked forward to the days when he was chalking up his pool cue or aiming to strike down all pins in one shot.

Ossie is survived by his loving wife, Florence, his children: Sachere, Sharon, Andrew Sr., adopted grandson Andrew Jr., his stepsons Noel Sr. and Richard; and his many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nephews, and nieces. He will be deeply missed by his sisters Beverly, Shirley, Silvia, Claudette, and Doreen. He is predeceased by his father Valentine Ebeneezer, mother Elsada, and brother Donald. His memory will live on through his family, his friends and all whose lives he touched and enriched.

A Memorial Reception to celebrate Ossie’s life will be held on Friday, July 24, 2026, from 1:00pm to 4:00pm at Tubman Funeral Homes Garden Chapel, 3440 Richmond Road (between Bayshore & Baseline Rd.) Nepean.. As this celebration is on the day that also marks his 83rd birthday, the family requests that attendees consider wearing vibrant colors to celebrate who he was and the life he lived. Small floral tributes are welcome.
