Martha Orfanos, age 95, passed away peacefully on March 8, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family.
She was born on June 8, 1930, in Potamia, Greece, to George and Garifalia. In search of a better life, she immigrated to Canada, where she met and married the love of her life, Lysandros, in June 1958. Together they worked tirelessly to build a loving life and a strong foundation for their family. The following year, Martha became a proud mother to her daughter, Angelica.
Family was the center of Martha’s world. She cherished every moment spent with those she loved and had a remarkable gift for bringing people together. Living together with her family, she filled their lives with warmth, laughter, and the comforting aromas of her incredible cooking. Whether preparing elaborate meals or baking delicious desserts, her talents in the kitchen were unmatched and enjoyed by all who gathered around.
Martha loved sharing stories, watching movies, reading, and most of all making people laugh. She had a lively spirit and never missed an opportunity to socialize or join in a celebration.
To her grandchildren and great-grandchildren she was Yiayia and Granny, but to so many others she was simply “Yiayia” as well. She had a special way of making everyone feel like family, and she was adored by all who knew her. Her generous heart, joyful spirit, and love of life left a lasting impression on everyone she met.
Martha is lovingly survived by her daughter Angelica, her son-in-law Nickolas, her grandchildren John, Martha (and her husband Marc), and Alyssandra, and her great-grandchildren Nickolas and Tiago. She also leaves behind Nala (Loulou) and her beloved brother Petros.
She will also be deeply missed by many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends, all of whom she loved dearly and touched with her kindness and warmth.
She will be greatly missed and forever remembered with love by all who knew her.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, March 12, at 10:00 a.m., followed by the funeral service at 11:00 a.m., both at the Dormition of the Virgin Mary Greek Orthodox Church, 1315 Prince of Wales Drive, Ottawa. Following the funeral service, we will proceed to Pinecrest Cemetery.
