It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Elizabeth Anne Thompson (Betty), in Ottawa on April 21, 2026, after a long and courageous battle with cancer.
Elizabeth was predeceased by her beloved parents, Edward and Phyllis Thompson, and was one of eight siblings. She was a devoted aunt to 11 nieces and nephews, and to their children, all of whom held a special place in her heart.
Elizabeth’s career reflected her lifelong commitment to learning, service, and helping others succeed. She began as an elementary educator and later went on to a distinguished career at the Canadian Police College and later as a civilian trainer with the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, where she contributed to the development of the training reform framework for cadets.
Later in life, Elizabeth embraced her artistic talents and became an accomplished artist, creating works that brought beauty and joy to those who knew her. Always the dog lover, she was also often called upon as a trusted and caring companion to many friends’ and families’ cherished fur babies.
She will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
There will be no service at this time. In Elizabeth’s memory, donations may be made to the Ottawa Food Bank, Boys and Girls Club of Ottawa, or the Ottawa Humane Society.
