IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Dorothy Helen
Gray
January 10, 1941 – January 30, 2026
Dorothy Helen Gray (née Cameron)
July 10, 1941 – January 30, 2026
Dorothy Helen Gray (née Cameron) passed away peacefully on January 30, 2026, at the age of 84.
Predeceased by her beloved husband, Donald Gray, her parents, Gladys Evelyn Cameron (Duff) and Charles Cameron, and her in-laws, Harold and Rae Gray. Dorothy is survived by her loving son, Stuart (Guy), sisters-in-law Linda Thomson (Bob) and Ruth Wright, and brother-in-law Bruce. She will be fondly remembered by her nieces and nephews Wendy Carnegie (Kyle), Spencer, Todd, and Donald; great-nephew Jack; cousins Ian, Helen, and Richard; and her special cousin Joan.
Dorothy faced life’s challenges with strength and grace, raising her son following the sudden passing of her husband in 1971. She dedicated her career to the education and support of children with disabilities, beginning at the Sir James Whitney School for the Deaf in Belleville and later serving at Centennial Public School and the Children’s Treatment Centre in Ottawa.
A lifelong member of the Girl Guides of Canada where she inspired countless young women and made lifelong friends. Dorothy spent many summers as Camp Director at Camp Woolsey and during a Guiding trip to England in 1966, she met the Hyslop family, who became cherished lifelong friends. Her spirit of service extended well beyond Guiding; Dorothy was a dedicated volunteer with both the Nepean Youth Choir and the Ottawa Regional Youth Choir.
In her later years, Dorothy found great enjoyment in researching her family history. She will be remembered for her quiet strength, compassion, intellect, and enduring kindness
Donations in memory of Dorothy may be made to the Ottawa Food Bank or the Ottawa Humane Society. A celebration of Dorothy’s life will be held in the spring of 2026.
