Alain leaves behind his loving wife, Ardith, his devoted son, Jean-Michel, his daughter-in-law, Shannon and five beloved grandchildren; Austin, Jaxyn, Teagan, Kael and Avalee. He is also remembered by his sister-in-law, nieces, nephews and cousins living in France and Mexico, who even from afar, hold him close in their hearts.
Alain is predeceased by his parents, Paul and Germaine, and his siblings Jacques, Colette and Pierre.
Born November 7, 1941 Alain was raised as a French citizen in the place of his birth, Rabat, Morrocco. He studied law at university in Rabat and in Toulouse, France. A France-Quebec Bursary brought him to Canada where he pursued post-graduate work in law at the Univesities of Montreal and Laval. It was at Laval University, in Quebec that he met the love of his life, Ardith.
In 1972, Alain began a career as a legal translator in Fredericton, New Brunswick. From there, Alain and Ardith moved to Ottawa in 1976 where Alain continued his work as a legal translator with the federal government eventually assuming translation positions with a variety of companies and Canada Post and as a free-lancer in retirement. It was in Ottawa that Alain and Ardith started a family.
Alain liked to be active. He enjoyed daily long walks with his dog along the Ottawa River, was one of the original year-long bike commuters between home and work, combined with other biking expeditions, and undertook projects at home and at the cottage.
Alain was proud of and strongly connected to his French heritage. In retirement, Alain and Ardith, having inherited the family home in Taninges, France, opened the old stone house near the Alps as a bed and breakfast, where, during the spring and summer months they hosted family and friends and welcomed visitors from around the world. Ardith and Alain enjoyed many years splitting their time between France and Canada. Alain was a devoted son and brother, loving husband and father, a generous grandfather and kind uncle.
