It is with great sadness that the family of Iris Isabel Wallingford (Craig) announce her passing on November 21st, 2019, at the age of 88 years. Dear daughter of the late Archie and Erma Craig of Ottawa, Iris will be lovingly remembered by her husband of 65 years, Errol, and her children, Carol (Peter) Laws, Calgary; Deb Wallingford (Dennis Bresee), Ottawa; and Ruth (Robin) Heisey, Toronto. Cherished Nanny of Matt (Candice), Adam (Ali), Julie (Ray), Emily (JJ), William, John and Cori (John), and GG (Great Grandmother) to Logan and Parker.
Iris was a gentle, kind, generous soul who will be missed by all that knew her. A voracious reader and knitter, she kept the grandchildren in bright stylish sweaters, and even knit one tiny sweater to be put away for each of her grandchildren’s first born. Iris worked both as a medical secretary and a librarian. She enjoyed trailering vacations with her young family across Canada, cruises around the globe with Errol, and wonderful family trips to Calgary, Vancouver Island, Germany, Italy and the U.K..
Iris’ name will live on: When her mother and father sold their farm at Woodroffe Avenue and Baseline Road to the city of Ottawa in the 1950s, they were given the opportunity to christen several new streets, so they chose the names of their children, Kenneth, Jean and Iris - the last of which has become a major thoroughfare in the city.
Fond memories of Iris will be forever cherished.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Hazeldean Gardens, 6130 Hazeldean Road, Stittsville, on Saturday November 30, 2019 from 2:00-4:00 p.m. For those who wish memorial donations can be made to the Cataraqui Trial Association.
