Founder of S.W. Farrell and Sons

On Monday April 10, 2017 following a lengthy illness. Dearly loved husband of 61 years to Dorothy (nee Nicholls). Beloved father of David (Trudi), Michael (Lorraine) and the late Steven. Proud grandfather of Christopher, Kurt (Ashley), Karissa, Billy, Kara (Sebastian Last), and StevieLynn. Great grandfather to Ethan Douglas.

Dear brother of Dennis (Rina), Bill (Monika), Doreen Henderson (late Francie), Dora Francis (Ken), and Betty Stewart (Sandy). Stan was predeceased by his brothers Eldon, Ted, Harold; sisters Marion and Fran Crawford (Keith). As well as his parents Arthur and Lola Farrell.

Born in South Mountain, Stan came to Ottawa and began his construction career working for J.W. Dockerill. He started S.W. Farrell and Sons in 1959. Stan was well known and respected in the construction community of Ottawa. The company will celebrate its 58th year in business this year, a fact which Stan was very proud of.

Stan loved sports. He skied, golfed, loved football at Lansdowne and cheered for the Ottawa Senators. He loved his days boating on Mississippi Lake with the grandchildren and having barbeques with friends and family. He will be missed by his euchre friends as well.

Stan loved his family deeply, and loved nothing better than to tease them as often as possible.

After falling ill a few years ago, Stan missed skiing and golf, but he found his wheelchair had two speeds, fast and stop.

He’ll be greatly missed by everyone, none more so than his family.

He was one of a kind.

Keeping with Stan’s wishes, following a private family service, friends, family and colleagues are invited to attend a memorial reception on Monday April 17, from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Capital Memorial Gardens (3700 Prince of Wales Drive).

For those wishing, donations to the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario, or the Canadian Cancer Society in Stan’s name would be greatly appreciated.
