Shirley and her family lived nextdoor to me and my family during the l970s - - Hillcrest Avenue. It was , it is, a wonderful street and Shirley was an unforgettable feature of Hillcrest Avenue. Our reminiscences of "the good old days" have always included Shirley. Over the years we enjoyed her articles in Newswest, reflecting Shirley's interest in the history of our community. My sympathy to the Shorter family. You can be sure that Shirley lives on in the memories of all her old neighbours. Sharon Rogers

Our sympathy and condolences to all of the family on the death of your mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. We will always remember her as a wonderful person, very friendly, outgoing, spry and a great neighbour over the many years we have known her. She will be missed. May you find comfort and inspiration in your memories of her, and her strength, over the many years of her life.

I'm so sorry to hear about your mom and grandmother. She was a great care giver to her children and knew a lot about the history of Meech Lake. With the passing of my mother (Bette-Anne Carnegie), Dr. Bobby Murray and your mom, it is the end of that era at the cottage. She will be missed when I go to the cottage this summer. Donna Graves

My condolences to the family of Shirley. I have fond memories growing up next door to Sandy, Gord and Bill on Broadview Avenue (571), and still have pictures of Sandy and I in my grandfather's (Mr. Allen) garden. Shirley was a wonderful neighbour lady! Mary (nee Brenan)
