Deepest sympathies to Max and all of Shannon's family. Shannon will be sorely missed. She was a fantastic friend, and a wonderful person. Her light shone so bright, it's hard to believe she isn't here anymore. The effect she had on people, and the memories created, will ensure her light will shine on.

Max, I'm so sorry I never got to meet you in better times - Shannon spoke of you with love and humour. I'm so pleased she had you in her life. We met back in our University of Alberta days, and deepened our friendship through law school. Her sassy nature, giving heart, and incredible mind warmed me, inspired me, and lifted me up. She's an incredible loss to those who loved her and to the world generally. My heart goes out to you and the family.

I'm so very sorry to learn the sad news about dear, brilliant Shannon. Too soon. Much too soon. She was a grade 6 girl reading Shakespeare when I met her and I felt privileged to be her English teacher. Her intellectual curiosity must have been inspirational and energizing to many over the years, as it always was to me. As a young person, she always spoke warmly of her brothers, her mother, and other family members and I'm glad to know she went on to have a loving partner in Max. Shannon's vocation in law would have suited her passion for truth and justice and I can imagine that her contributions to the field would have been significant. We've lost a special soul. Please accept my sympathy and condolences. Lorna Jamison

I was so heartbroken and shocked to hear of Shannon’s passing. She was a law school classmate and she was the brightest, most insightful student who would put most of us to shame. We always had her pegged as the student most likely to be appointed to the Supreme Court. She was respected, well liked and admired. What a terrible loss to the legal community to have her life cut short. What a terrible loss to the community in general. My heart goes out to her spouse, her family and her dear friends. You will be sorely missed Shannon.

I imagine Shannon was the kind of person who created a community around here wherever she went. She certainly did so at Cambridge. She is central to many of my fondest memories from our LLM year - hosted dinners, the wine tasting evening with the president of the Cambridge University Press, our ill-planned 60 km bike ride to Wimpole over farmer's fields on rented, half-functioning bikes, the New Years road trip to Edinburgh, volunteering with the Graduate Student Body - there are so many. She was exuberant, intelligent, and so much fun to be around. For me, she will live on as a light in that perfect year abroad. To Max and Shannon's family - my heart goes out to you for your terrible loss.
