Dear Matthews Family We were so sad to hear of Obie’s passing, although we knew he had been failing of late. He was a good neighbour and friend for many years. He and Dodie looked after our house when we were away. And sometimes we would visit and enjoy a drink together. Dodie, of course, kept us in delicious date squares. Obie was always proud of his NL heritage and also of his father who had served Canada in the Navy. We think of him with fondness and will miss him. Unfortunately, I am just home from two weeks in hospital. I wouldn’t last long on my feet and so we shall have to miss the reception. But our hearts are with you as you remember your wonderful father. Thinking of all of you Bill and Carolyn

We feel honoured to have spent some precious hours with Obie in early January where he met our son Caio for the first time. Caio will always treasure the Maple Leaf gloves Obie gave him during our visit. Obie is sorely missed and will always have a place in our hearts. Our sincere condolences to the family. Gayle and I were very saddened to read of Obie's death. He and I were colleagues first, at Canadian Commercial Corporation, and friends since, often meeting for lunch to compare notes and stay in touch. Obie was greatly respected as a contracting and procurement specialist, a senior corporate executive and a man of integrity. He was a proud federal public servant who rose from a junior position in Halifax, served in our embassy in Washington and retired as Executive Vice President. We are currently out of the country and, regrettably, will not be able to attend his memorial service where we would have expressed our sympathy to Lynn, Susan and Phil of whom he was immensely proud. Our sincere condolences. Gayle and Hugh Mullington
