Kind, intelligent, insightful, competent, quick witted and a mentor ..... these are some of the many descriptors of Gerry Nixon. A man with a good honest laugh and a steely glare when required. Soft of voice and firm of conviction . Gerry brought people together at CFIA from many competing departments. Somehow as if by magic he got them to put aside their turf and work to a common good. This was no trivial feat. He made working for the Federal Government a worthy calling, definity something to be proud of. There are tears in my eyes as I mourn his passing. Richard Smith

Gerry Nixon worked for me in the Vancouver/Burnaby Health Protection Branch (and then the CFIA) when he was the Food Chemistry Lab Supervisor. This news is a shock. Gerry was such a capable chemist and Supervisor, and a great person. I appreciated his friendship and his ability to deal with technical and personnel issues. He demonstrated his adaptability and expertise when he moved on to CFIA headquarters in Ottawa and became a valuable advisor there. Gerry will be missed.

Charlene and Family. Such sad news, so sorry for your loss. I was very fortunate to have worked with him, he was truly a gentlemen and a kind person. During the time having worked with you Charlene at RBC and having worked with Gerry at CFIA, I was witness to two people with complete adoration for one another. Yours was a very special marriage. He adored his family and was very proud of it. I am very sorry I cannot be at the funeral on Saturday as we are leaving for Europe today. I would love to get in touch when we return in late November if you would like to Charlene. Barb Peace

My heart hurts. Gerry was a lovely, lovely man. He so loved his family. And as a public servant, he cared so much about the integrity of the food safety system. His family knows about the long hours he spent at work. As one of Canada's great experts in his field, he excelled at explaining and supporting and improving food safety programs in Canada. And so importantly, he made us laugh every day. Thank you so much for sharing him with us. So sorry for your loss.

Charlene, Our sincere condolences to you and the family on this sudden loss. Gerry was someone we always enjoyed. He was such a dedicated person to Health Canada and to the Canadian Food Inspection Agency. Whenever we saw him in the community, he was always ready with a smile and a greeting. We are thinking of you at this difficult time. Gerry will be remembered and celebrated by all who knew him. Thinking of you and sending a hug. You are in our thoughts and prayers. Don and Mary

Dear Charlene & family. I was shocked when first I heard of Gerry's passing. He was such a kind, soft spoken gentleman. I always enjoyed "counting" with you and him. You and your family have been in my prayers since first I heard the news. May God bless each of you during this most difficult time. Helen
