Claire and I wish to offer our deepest sympathies to the extended Turpin family for the loss of their patriarch Mr. Fern Turpin . I could write volumes about the humble beginnings giving rise to Fern becoming one of GM's best dealers, the scores of awards , the charitable contributions , the stellar business reputation ,the love of his family , his devotion to his manufacturer, the vision and foresight he possessed but what really meant the most to myself and numerous other employees was the way we were valued , respected and treated by Fern. In an industry plagued by short term employment our annual Christmas party stood out as employees received tenure awards reaching in some cases up to 40+ years clearly indicating what a great place this was to work , and this came from the top. Since my retirement I have bumped into several "old timers " who moved on to other endeavours and knowing that I had occasional contact with Mr. Turpin were adamant that I relay to him how they had used the skills and most importantly the attitude to employees and customers learned at Turpin to propel them to considerable success in their chosen work . To me , Fern's relationship with people , specifically employees will be his legacy .
