Though not a "serious" birder, I always read her column; like so many Ottawans, I enjoyed its charm and the birding news or tips she included. Many years ago we worked together as Manotick Library volunteers, and I was tickled at getting to know such a celebrity! She will be long remembered by her thousands of devoted fans.

My sympathy to all who loved Elizabeth. She and I met on her last birding vacation and my first in 1996. We shared our love of birds and Scrabble regularly and I will miss her. She was an amazing role model. Such a feisty, fun and smart woman. I am sorry I will be out of town October 14. May her life be well celebrated!

We are so sorry to have to say goodbye to this beautiful lady - a beloved former neighbor, writer and speaker, and a passionate advocate for all wildlife, particularly her beloved winged friends. I know that her spirit, unencumbered with earthly weights is now flying free above and about us. After a life so well-lived, may you fly on in peace Elizabeth!

I took this photo of Elizabeth in 2013 when I visited with her at Orchard View Lodge. Elizabeth published many of my bird photos over the years in her weekly Bird Column in The Ottawa Citizen. My sincere condolences to the LeGeyt family, Elizabeth was a great inspiration to me and a very dear and special friend.
