Debby died following a short acute infection complicated by lung cancer at the age of 41. She leaves behind her loving husband Christopher, beloved four-year-old daughter Kaylee, her parents Susan and Derry Oke, in- laws Gwen and Bruce Brown, sister Carrie, brother Wesley and his wife Amy, nieces and nephews, many other family members and dear friends, especially Krista Moulds and Darlene Simard. Debby was born in Halifax while her father was on a naval posting there. She lived in Ottawa, Toronto, Vancouver and Kingston, Ontario as a young child before moving to Barrhaven with her family when she was 7. Debby graduated with honours from Sir Guy Carleton High School. Like many teens, her first job was at MacDonald’s. She worked for a number of retail stores, including Macintosh and Watts, Bentley Leather and HomeSense before working at Vangent Canada, Ltd where she was a data entry clerk. She met Chris at a time when she was starting to think she would remain single. They fell in love and married in the Dominican Republic in December, 2010. Debby decided to remain at home after Kaylee was born and was a loving and devoted stay- at -home mom. Visitation will be held at Tubman Funeral Homes Garden, 3440 Richmond Road (at Bayshore Dr.), Ottawa on Wednesday, June 29 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. A Service of Remembrance will be held at Bells Corners United Church, 3955 Old Richmond Road on Thursday, June 30 at 11 a.m. Reception to follow. Debby and the family discussed charities during her illness and she expressed the desire that anyone wanting to make a memorial gift consider Bells Corners Co-operative Nursery School, the staff and parents have been so generous during her illness, or the Wild Bird Care Centre.
