Audrey Barbara Weller
March 16, 1923 – January 16, 2016
It is with profound sadness that we announce the death of our adored mother. Audrey passed away peacefully in her 92nd year on January 16, 2016. Beloved wife of the late Hedley V. Weller. Cherished mother of Pamela (Garry) Osborn and Kerri Weller (Paul van Leeuwen). Cherished grandmother of David, Heather, Beverly, Bryana and Trevor. Predeceased by parents, Elsie and Frederick Montague, and sister, Cynthia. Leaves behind much loved sister, Jean. Audrey led a full and adventurous life through remarkable times. Born in London, England, she trained at the London School of Needlework until the war disrupted her schooling. At age 18, she was assigned to war work in London, and also sang in Arthur Forest’s big band. This is where her husband, who was with the British Airforce, first met her. Married in 1948, they immigrated to Canada to build a new life. Like so many of her generation, the war years shaped her character to one of inner strength, resilience, hardwork and compassion. She lived her life with grace, kindness and humility. Her friendship extended to people from all walks of life and nationalities. A skilled seamstress in dressmaking, tailoring and needlework, she was rarely without a project on the go. In her later years, knitting, rug hooking and quilting were enjoyed with her many friends. Together, over the years they have raised substantial dollars for Unitarian House with their beautiful work. Thank you to her cherished friends, the wonderful staff at Unitarian House. A special thank you to Lexie and Ron Bayes, and to Bertille for their support and care through difficult times. Cremation has taken place. A Memorial Service will be held at All Saints’ Anglican Church, Westboro 347 Richmond Rd. Ottawa on Friday, January 22, 2016 at 11 am. Lunch reception to follow at Unitarian House of Ottawa, 20 Cleary Avenue, Ottawa – 12:30 – 2:30. In lieu of flowers, your stories and memories of Audrey would be the kindest gift to the family. A Book of Memories will be at the reception or please email to Tubman’s. Donations in Audrey’s memory may be to Unitarian House or All Saints’ Anglican Church, Westboro.
