It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Merilyn Louise Shea, who died peacefully at the Ottawa Civic Hospital on April 16, 2013, at the age of 72. Left to cherish her memory are her daughter Anneke and son Sean, and their spouses Ross and Anne. She was adoring "Gramma" to Violette and Lace and "Grammy" to Amelia and Callum, and beloved sister to Cecil (Mary Lou) and Rick (Lisa). She was predeceased by her parents Patricia and Jack and her brother Dana. Merilyn loved the classics and art and all the beauty the world has to offer and sought to share that love by being an educator. Starting her teaching career in Saskatchewan and retiring in Ottawa, she had an innate understanding and love of children. With a gentle inner strength, she touched and shaped many lives. The essence of beauty, elegance and class, Merilyn was cultured and artistic. She had an extensive knowledge of history and literature and adored her crossword puzzles, PBS and TVO, and her magazines. In her last few months she was comforted by the stories she was composing for her precious grandchildren. To us she is the Willows and the Wheat. Despite living in the east and her treasured travels in Europe, Merilyn's heart belonged to the prairie and she held dear her memories of growing up in her home town of Eston, Saskatchewan. She was a prairie rose to the end. Her life was written in the wind, surrounded by verdant fields and amazing azure skies. Gone too soon, our hearts mourn her passing. Love and squishes forever. A memorial service for family will take place in July on her beloved prairie. In lieu of sending flowers, treat yourself to a rose in tribute to her memory. The family wishes to thank the caring staff at the Ottawa Civic Hospital for their compassion and support.

Helping other’s in a time of need comes naturally to most. Being a funeral director gives us that opportunity on a daily basis to not only help a individual but a family. Being given this opportunity is one of the most rewarding feelings at the end of the day.
