Bothe, B. Benno
Date of death: February 20, 2012
July 14, 1924 - February 20, 2012
It is with profound sadness that we share news of the passing of our beloved husband, father and father-in-law. Ben passed away from complications of Parkinson’s Disease, a cruel illness that he battled for over 10 years. Left to mourn are his devoted and loving wife of 59 years, Edda, his daughters, Brenda and Barbara, and his son-in-law, Richard. Ben came to Canada from Germany in 1952 and Edda joined him here shortly afterwards. When Ben married Edda in 1953, he had just 33¢ in his pocket, but his vision of providing a comfortable life for his wife and family never wavered. He was always grateful to Canada for the countless experiences and opportunities that allowed him to realize that “simple dream”. Having lived in Alberta, British Columbia and the Yukon, Ben finally settled his family in Ontario, where he spent the last 47 years of his life. Ben was both a thespian and a raconteur, but his artistic side will probably be most remembered and forever cherished through his sketches, drawings, paintings, poetry and writings. The family wishes to extend its most heartfelt thanks to the caring, compassionate staff of Pine House at the Peter D. Clarke Long-Term Care Facility and also to the CCAC. “ My Love, our dear Dad, you are forever in our hearts.” A farewell to Ben will take place at Tubman Funeral Homes, 403 Richmond Road at Roosevelt on Saturday, February 25th, 2012 from 2 to 5 p.m. In lieu of flowers, a donation in Ben’s name to the Parkinson Society of Ottawa would be appreciated.
